Welcome to the first chapter of our new blog series In Bed With - a gentle, intimate conversation under the covers with people we admire. We’ll be exploring the rituals, reflections, and routines that shape their nights (and days).
We’re kicking things off with someone very close to home - Sophie, the founder of Floks. What began as a personal journey through early motherhood and postnatal exhaustion led Sophie to rethink the way we approach sleep altogether. Her belief? That we should live in a sustainable world where people understand the importance of sleep in order to be the best version of themselves.
In this interview, Sophie shares the habits that have grounded her and the non-negotiables that get her through the night. It’s a tender reminder that sleep is never just sleep - it’s recovery, resilience, and in many ways, a return to ourselves.
So fluff your pillows and settle in.
I feel optimistic about…
The simple things - waking up, feeling well, and being surrounded by the people I love. Every new day brings the chance to grow, connect, and do something meaningful, no matter how small.
When the going gets tough…
I’ve learned that practicing positive self-talk and getting good sleep are non-negotiables for me. No matter what’s going on, I truly believe in the power of a good night’s rest, it can offer a much-needed reset and a fresh perspective. That, and talking things through. I’m incredibly lucky to have a circle of trusted friends who listen without judgment and give honest, thoughtful advice. I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve, so having that space to be open and heard is something I really rely on.
I would tell my younger self
Practice being present. Life only reveals its full beauty when you're really in the moment - feeling it all, the good and the hard. Growing up, it's so easy to rush ahead, to be distracted by what’s next. But it's only when you look back that you realise how special or how shaping, certain moments were. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Be gentle with yourself. And love big, with your whole heart.
A habit that’s served me well
Forever prioritising sleep. Even as a child, sleep was always my cure. My mum still says that whenever I got poorly, I’d just sleep myself better. I was always the first to fall asleep at sleepovers, and usually the first one home on a night out. I’ve just always needed my sleep and I can feel it in my mood the moment I don’t get enough.
On my bedside table…
I usually have a stack of around 4-5 books, consisting of the current book club read, a handed-down book or two and a mindfulness read. I ALWAYS have a big glass of water, my Sweet Bee magnesium butter, pillow spray and silk eye mask… I reach for this if I wake in the night because of light and sound, it helps me to drift back off quicker.
A bedtime routine that works for me…
A lukewarm shower is a non-negotiable. I cannot get into bed without one, no matter where I've been or what I've been doing. The Sweet Bee magnesium sleep butter on the soles of my feet, eye mask not on but close by in case I do wake with the light…
Sounds to drift off to
I am a person who enjoys background noise to fall asleep to, whether that's the sound of my Husband chatting or something he's watching… it just works for me. I rarely fall asleep in complete silence.
