Experience your best summer sleep yet with our natural trio of wool, hemp, and organic cotton - cool, breathable, moisture-wicking and designed to keep you comfortable all night long. All the benefits of using our perfectly natural trio of wool, hemp and organic cotton to get your best sleep this summer.
Many of us have waited a long time for summer to arrive - to feel the warmth on our skin, spend more time outside, and enjoy the benefits of all the extra daylight. But it’s also a time when our sleep, the absolute cornerstone of our wellness, takes a massive hit.
A One Poll study we commissioned found that almost half of the UK population (49%) say they get up to two hours less sleep a night during the summer, with 10% losing up to four hours a night. The most common causes? Overheating (89%) and allergies (20%).
This is what we hear in our conversations with customers too. From the hormonal changes of menopause to an increasing number of allergies and complications of chronic health problems, itching and sweating are far worse in the summer months when our windows are open and the temperature rises.
Sleep is so important to our wellbeing; physically and emotionally and we believe it shouldn't suffer in summer, or ever! And, as always, nature has us covered:
Hemp, organic cotton and wool: The perfect summer trio
What we wrap ourselves in and under at night matters. We select our materials very carefully, and we believe that using wool, hemp, and organic cotton solves these unpleasant and all-too-common summer sleep problems.
Our core wool bedding collection uses the best of local, British wool. Our new complementary bed linen, made from hemp and organic cotton, is designed to provide you with all-natural benefits to help you get better sleep this summer and beyond.
Natural is best for the planet (and for you)
All of the materials we use have been designed to give you pure, natural comfort that works with your body and the seasons.
Hemp is one of the most environmentally responsible fibres on the planet; it grows quickly, needs very little water, and doesn’t rely on pesticides, plus it naturally regenerates the soil it grows in, making it regenerative and carbon positive by nature.
We took our time developing this bed linen, and we’re so pleased with the result. Our customers tell us it feels buttery and gets better and softer with every wash.
Not all cotton is created equal. On one side of our bedding we use hemp, and on the other we use GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic, 300-thread-count sateen cotton, so you can choose which side you sleep under.
This also means no harmful chemicals, ethical working conditions, and complete traceability. It’s better for farmers, better for ecosystems, and better for you. You can read more about the story behind our hemp & organic bed linen.
Say bye-bye to overheating
When people think of wool, they often think of winter and warmth. But wool is great for summer, as are hemp and organic cotton for their cooling, natural properties.
Sophie says:
“It seems counter-intuitive to sleep under wool in summer, but wool is the best material you can use in the heat. Wool fibres are inherently temperature regulating. It prevents you waking up in the night due to overheating - it’s natures air conditioning!
When you combine this with cooling, soft hemp and organic cotton sateen, you are giving yourself the best environment to sleep in this summer.”
One of the most remarkable qualities of wool is its natural ability to regulate body temperature. Unlike synthetic materials, which can trap heat and moisture, wool fibres are breathable and wick away moisture, keeping you cool and dry on even the hottest summer nights. Additionally, wool has insulating properties that help to maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature, ensuring that you stay cosy without overheating.
Likewise, hemp is moisture-wicking and absorbent so it’s perfect for keeping cool and comfortable.
Respite for allergy sufferers
Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and brilliant at resisting dust mites, mould, and mildew—common triggers that can make allergies worse. It’s breathable and regulates humidity; unlike synthetic materials, it doesn’t trap allergens. It's just pure, natural comfort that works with your body and the seasons.
Hemp contains natural antibacterial and antiviral properties and is naturally hypoallergenic, so it is perfect for those with allergies or sensitive skin, just like wool.
Breathability
Natural fibres allow air to circulate freely, preventing the buildup of heat and humidity. This breathability is essential for creating a comfortable sleeping environment, especially in high temperatures.
Whether you’re a hot sleeper or want to avoid waking up feeling sweaty and uncomfortable, wool and hemp bedding provide the breathability you need for a restful night’s sleep.
Weight
Wool has that little bit of comforting weight that’s proven to help calm and relax our minds, yet you can rest well knowing you won’t overheat. Even our summer duvets will give you a bit of weight without feeling heavy, so you still get that cocooning comfort that sends you off into a restorative slumber.
Insect repelling
Hemp is naturally resistant to insects (it's often used as animal bedding because it's a natural fly repellent) requiring no pesticides for growth and wool's properties and structure are inhospitable to insects, flies and bugs too.
Durability and Longevity
Investing in quality bedding is essential for a good night’s sleep, and natural fibre bedding is known for its exceptional durability and longevity.
Unlike synthetic materials that can break down over time, wool fibres are resilient and resistant to wear and tear, ensuring that your bedding remains in excellent condition for years to come and hemp is durable enough to last for decades.
