It is August and our second edition of Field Notes ... How on Earth did we get here so quickly? Finally, Summer is here and we're enjoying all that this most longed-for season has to offer.
First of August was Yorkshire Day and given our Yorkshire roots, we decided to focus on our home County and some of the things that make it as special as it is. From the Great Yorkshire Show, to finds and favourite places. here are a few gems.
Floks Feels
Vitamin Sea ... there's nothing quite like it/ The Yorkshire Coast holds fond childhood memories for all of the team and is a current favourite for days out with our own children. It is beautiful all year round, whether it's for blustery beach walks or wandering around historic, pretty, seaside towns. Runswick is a must for crabbing, Whitby and Sandsend for a delicious seafood lunch at The Fishermans Wife or Fish Cottage. A hard place to top for a short family break.
Flower meadows ... we adore them. The Yorkshire Flower Belt is a beautiful PYO flower field run by 3rd generation farmer Henry Wainright. It is situated just a 10-minute walk from the idyllic town of Helmsley and has been featured in The Times. Boasting over 32 variety of flowers, a huge sunflower field, homemade honey and fresh coffee, it makes for a gorgeous day out for everyone.
Floks Finds
Eren Armitage is a talented, Harrogate based ceramicist. With roots in Yokohama, Japan, Eren draws inspiration from the landscapes of both her home country and her adopted home in Yorkshire. We think the result is something special. So much so that we have commissioned some incense holders for our store. Due to land soon and to be paired with the Evermore range of incense that we love and stock.
For a refreshing, non-alcoholic botanical drink, we love Bax Botanicals. They are made here in Yorkshire by Chris and Rosa Bax who have over 30 years experience, using wild, natural ingredients. We love their spicy Verbena Mule Cocktail recipe: 50ml Bax Verbena in a long glass poured over plenty of ice, topped with 100ml ginger beer, lime wedges and a large spring of mint
