"All is quiet now, it's June."
Salima Hill, poet
With the hedgerows blowsy with cow parsley, grass golden with buttercups and trees laden with elderflower, it is hard not to get swept up with a feeling of excitement for the unfolding of early summer and all that it offers.
We are taking the time to enjoy this most gentle of seasons, setting a simple table in the garden with foraged greenery and eating outside as often as the weather allows. Longer, lighter, warmer evenings encourage us to step away from screens and connect with family and friends.
If you are lucky enough to have a patch of garden, perhaps like us it is constantly strung with billowing washing and there is just nothing better than the scent of freshly, dried outside, laundry, especially when it is the bedding you are going to sleep under that night, we firmly believe that you just sleep better in fresh sheets.
With this slower, more gentle month in mind we wanted share with you some of the things we are loving right now:
Floks reads
We Made A Garden – Margery Fish – first published in the 1950s this is a handbook to creating a garden from scratch, turning a wild plot into a quintessential cottage garden which is still open to the public today.
Garden People – Valarie Finnis – a glorious post war photographic record of people at home in their gardens and all of the amazing fashions of the day. We love this whimsical nostalgic look back on the British gardening scene.
